Erken Cumhuriyet Döneminde Türk muhafazakârlığı: Çığır dergisi

The subject of this thesis is Turkish conservatism in early Republican period. This conservative thought is examined through Çığır journal which was published in this period. Çığır is a journal, published between 1933 and 1948. The journal's staff was composed of the prominent intellectuals of the period. Most of the intellectuals who are seen as leading figures in Turkish conservatism were among the journal's staff. This dissertation aims to present features of the conservatism in early Republican period by regarding conservative themes in Çığır journal. The determination of features of the conservatism in early Republican period by using Çığır journal is based on the analysis of the articles in the journal with the descriptive analysis method. Conservative ideology is always a significant subject in Turkish political life. In order to follow development of this ideology in Turkey, the early Republican period is one of the most important periods that should be discoursed. Tracing the conservative themes in a journal that had been published for 15 years in the early Republican period means to even implicitly address some topics such as agenda and capacity of intellectuals in early Republican era, the relations between state and intellectuals, the dynamic and the quests of Turkish modernization and to present a new perspectives for new readings. In this context, it can be said that there is a conservative tone in Çığır journal that has gained more and more visibility with the death of Atatürk.
