Abstract (EN)

Addiction has always been a major public health problem in societies and addictive substances have long been combated. States are still struggling with the problem of addiction. However, despite the knowledge of its harms and the diseases it causes, it is still used in almost all societies. Drugs, alcohol and tobacco are often used in different geographies, only the form and name of the substance varies. The most important thing they all have in common is their addictive properties and their damaging effects on human health. The most common of these recreational drugs is tobacco. The tobacco plant was discovered centuries ago. During the discovery and spread of tobacco, the tobacco plant was seen as a kind of therapeutic in every society it entered. However, this does not change the idea that tobacco is a recreational drug. It took a long time to prove that tobacco is harmful, especially since it shows its negative effects on health over a long period of time. However, tobacco has never been abandoned despite the understanding of the harm it causes to human health and societies. Nicotine is the main addictive substance in tobacco leaves. Nicotine addiction is the most difficult to quit among other types of addiction. Although tobacco consumption is stopped, withdrawal is felt for many years. Tobacco addiction is very difficult to give up and easy to get used to. This situation can be associated with the easy accessibility, transportation and consumption of tobacco. The purpose of addressing this issue is primarily to draw attention to tobacco addiction, which is a social problem. At the same time, by focusing on the tobacco plant, it is to draw attention to the situation of tobacco addiction and addicts in the historical process.
