Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between stress and psychological well-being levels of adults' early maladaptive schemas. For the study, the data of 331 adult participants were examined and findings about early maladaptive schemas, stress and psychological well-being levels were obtained. Sociodemographic Information Form, Young Schema Short Form, Stress Coping Style Scale, Perceived Stress Scale and Psychological Well-Being Scale were applied to the participants. Responses from the questionnaires sent to the participants as online questionnaires were analyzed by statistical analysis methods.According to the information obtained in the research, a negative and significant relationship was found between the well-being of the participants and the dimensions of early maladaptive schemas except high standards. On the other hand, a positive and statistically significant relationship was found between perceived stress level and pessimism, social isolation/insecurity, approval-seeking, privilege/insufficientself-control, self-sacrifice, punishment, vulnerability to threats and high standards schemas. In addition, among stress coping styles early maladaptive schemas which were found to be significantly related to self confident approach and optimistic approach were found to have a negative relationship; however early maladaptive schemas which were found to be significantly related to submissive approach, helpless approach and seeking social support dimensions were found to have positive relationship. When the early maladaptive schemas, coping styles, stress and psychological well-being levels of the participants were examined in terms of sociodemographic variables, it was determined that men's emotional suppression, punishment, imperfection and high standards schemas were higher than women's. Also, it was found that pessimism, isolation, emotional suppresion, addiction, inadequate self-control and punishment schemas were higher in single participants compared to married participants. It is thought that the findings of the research may contribute to understanding the extent to which the levels of coping with stress and well-being, which may be important for individuals to maintain their functionality, are related to the mental representations that begin to form in their early life.
