Technical analysis of commercial taxi usage and stops in Erzincan province

Abstract (EN)

Going from one place to another is one of the basic needs of people. People prefer various means of transportation to meet these transportation needs. Commercial taxis which are a part of our daily life and used more frequently in developed cities are one of these means of transportation. In places where the use of commercial taxis is not preferred, taxi drivers can resort to various solutions to find customers. In particular, the irregular distribution of taxi stands in the city, the lack of sufficient population, the concentration of taxi stands in certain parts of the city and the excessive number of taxis cause imbalances in taxi demand. Additionally, in case of these irregularities, it becomes difficult for people to access taxis and taxis cannot provide an efficient service. As a solution, taxi drivers take idle rides and stop in traffic, causing unnecessary traffic congestion. In this study, the methods used when calling a taxi in Erzincan, Central campus, the average job done by taxis and the factors affecting the work they do were determined by survey method. The current number of taxis and the locations of taxi stops were determined on maps based on area and population. Positioning taxi stops in appropriate places and redistributing the number of taxis to these stops re-planned by creating neighborhood-based sub-areas within a 500-meter walking distance for accessibility. In addition, parking areas for taxi vehicles were designed for each stop. It has been observed that the current number of 235 taxis serving 28% of the residential area is more than sufficient. Thanks to the distribution of taxi stops determined by the alternative proposal, this number will be increased to 132 taxis to serve 67% of the residential area.
