Investigation of the sinus maxillaris depending on age and gender groups in terms of maxillary teeth and dental implant applications in Erzincan province region

Aim: It is aimed to provide information that may be useful for other dental treatments, especially dental implant treatments, by examining the anatomical proximity between Sinus Maxillaris and Maxillary teeth in detail with cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Material and Method: The CBCT images of 150 patients were divided into age and gender groups and the vertical distance between the Sinus Maxillaris and the root apices of the canine, premolar and molar teeth was measured. The measured distances were divided into three categories: Type 1 (distance more than 1 mm), Type 2 (distance less than 1 mm), Type 3 (in contact or root extending into the sinus). Results: The teeth most frequently included in Type 3 were determined to be first molars. These teeth were followed by the second molar, third molar and second premolar teeth, respectively. Type 3 was found in 7.7% of canine teeth. The incidence of Type 3 decreased with increasing age. No significant relationship was found between gender groups. Conclusion: Determining the distance between maxillary teeth and Sinus Maxillaris is very important to prevent complications that may occur in dental implants and other dental treatments. Teeth included in Type 3 are very risky in terms of complications. Radiographic examination of individuals should be performed and dental treatments should be planned, taking into account the age factor.
