Abstract (EN)

Shear wave velocity (Vs) is one of the most important parameters defining the dynamic behavior of soils and plays a critical role in earthquake engineering and microzoning studies. The Vs value is typically measured through in-situ seismic tests. However, the time-consuming and costly nature of these methods has necessitated the development of more practical and economical alternatives. In this context, the relationship between the N blow count obtained from the Standard Penetration Test (SPT)—commonly applied in boreholes—and Vs is expressed in the literature through various empirical equations. In this thesis study, the relationship between SPT-N and Vs data obtained from drilling and seismic measurements conducted in Erzincan was examined within the framework of empirical models in the literature, and fitting curves were plotted. Among these fitting curves, the best fits were demonstrated by the studies of Imai et al. (1977), Imai and Yoshimura (1975), and Ohta and Goto (1978). In contrast, comparisons between the curves plotted in the present study and those from other relationships in the literature reveal that the curves do not align. The findings indicate that regional geological and geotechnical characteristics significantly influence the relationship between SPT-N and Vs.
