Abstract (EN)

Eş-Şelevbîn, one of the important linguists of Andalus, lived in Sevilla (İşbîlîye) between1167-1247. During his time, the Umayyads ruled in this region. He was one of the prominent scholars of his time in Arabic grammar and lexicon. He was compared with Ebû Alî el-Fârisî, who was regarded as the authority of the orient in Arabic grammar. He continued his schooling activity, mainly Arabic grammar, which he started at the age of eighteen for sixty years. He had considerable competence in language. This aspect of Şelevbî is clearly seen in the scholars he trained and the works he compiled. In our study, we discussed the political, social and historical aspects of the period in which Şelevbî lived, the life story of the author, his position among the nahivists, his connection to syntax, the sacred and rational evidences he used as a source in language, and his views on syntaxic issues.
