The effectiveness of teaching toileting skills using picture cards to the children with mental failure

The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of instruction with simultaneous clues presented with picture cards in teaching the use of the toilet to people with mental disabilities. The research was prepared by using multiple polling model among the subjects among the single-patterned research models. The toilet use skills were taught to the subjects in 14 sub-steps by using simultaneous hint method and the effectiveness of the training was tested by recording the results of the trainings gradually. The dependent variable of the research is defined as the ability of the subjects to use the toilet independently at least 100% correctly when they are instructed to include the steps of toileting. The independent variable of the research is simultaneous clue instruction using picture cards. It is seen that the trainings given to the children in 5 sessions have positive results and that 3 children have reached the full proficiency level depending on the trainings. According to the preliminary and final evaluation results, it is seen that all three of the children reached the full skill level in all 14 skills tested. In addition, according to the findings of the research, it was observed that the subjects achieved 100% retention and generalization in the follow-up and attendance sessions held 2 days, 1 week and 2 weeks after the attendance session. In the study, it was determined that the method of teaching with picture cards, which is one of the concurrent clues, whose effectiveness is tested, is a successful method for acquiring toilet skills for children with intellectual disabilities.
