Biography of Esed B. Furat and his contribution to prophet's tradition

The purpose of this study is that to investigate biography of Esed b. Furat who was a famous scholar in Magrib and also his contribution to the study of prophet?s tradition (Hadith). There are many crucial sources available in Magrib for History and Culture of Islam. However, there has not been sufficient study carried out in this field neither in Turkey nor in other Islamic countries, therefore, richness of science and culture of Magrib has not been promoted adequately. The main reasons of picking Esed b. Furat as a focus area in this study are that he was one of the scholars who were educated in Magrib and also he had a crucial role in his field of study This paper firstly investigates the science and political situation in general during the period of Esed?s life, then it is followed by an investigation which consists of his life starting from his birth, environment of science during the period of his education, his educators, his students, Islamic canon law (Fiqh) from his point of view and also his academic works. Some other facts have been discovered about personality of Furat after analysing the rumours about him. He was not only a scientist but also had an active role in politics. Esed b. Furat had conducted his duty as a judge in Kayveran then have gone to Sicily as a commander in military conquest and he died there, this study covers deeper investigation on this topic and his abilities will be discussed further. Rical and Tabakat have been used as sources to investigate biography of Esed b. Furat in this paper, scientific and political sources have also been used. Studies based on his biography carries a wide range of information about him, the reason for this is that he had lived in early period and inadequate studies of history of Magrib have been carried out during the same period. The reason of having problems during the investigation of Esed?s life is that being unable to get his publication of el-Essediye from first party. Even though, the studies carried out on his publication gives some information about the publication itself, it is found to be it is unsatisfactory As consequence of the researches conducted, it has been seen that Esed b. Furat was important personage as he was former representatives of Maliki and Hanefi Sects. It has been noticed that he had inspired by Maliki and Hanefi sects. Esed played a crucial role in distribution of the Muvatta which was authored by Imam-i Malik therefore he has an important role in study of Prophet?s tradition (Hadith) Keywords: Prophet?s tradition (Hadith) in Magrib, el-Essediye, rumours about Muvatta.
