ABSTRACT PhD Thesis DETERMINATION of BERYLLIUM TRACE CONTENTS by FLAME ATOMIC ABSORPTION SPECTROMETRY AFTER PRECONCENRATION HaHmAVCI Fırat University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciendies Department of Chemistry 2003, Page: 115 In this study, beryllium concentrations in soild samples such as soil, coal and fly ash. and different water samples were determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometry after preconcetration. For preconcentration, activated carbon was used as sorbent. The Hgands such as acetylacetone, morin, cupferron, oxine, PAR, PAN and of acetyl acetone plus morin were examined chelating reagents. The recovery of 90% were obtained by using the mixture acetylacetone plus morin, pH range of 8,50-1 0,50. It is observed that the beyllium absorbance were depressed by the major components such as Ca, Mg an Al at the high concentrations. However, this interferences were removed by using the optimized mothod. Key Words: Beryllium, Water, Soil, Coal ash, Preconcentration, Masking, Acetylacetone, Morin, Cupferron, Oxine, Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (F-AAS) XI
