Old Denizli houses Denizli's traditional house architecture's new edifice according to the city's development and change

This research is about the architecture of Denizli, the life style and the architectural facts since M.Ö 2000 and before. The immigrations in this historical times and the civilizations established after the immigrations leave special historical heritage to the city. Anatolian civilizations, the Ion civilization Millet, Hierapolis and Laodikia civilizations assembled cities and laid foundations of the modern city facts. Laodikia is one of the specialist cities in this period. Loadikian people had summer houses on the area where Denizli's center is located now. In time period the city of Laodicia immigrated to this place after this period Anatolia became Turk and met Islamic culture. After that Selçuklu civilization and Ottoman dominance had been seen. They didn't leave too much architectural buildings except Akhan caravansary and Ulu mosque. The others were ruined. Between 14 yy. and 20. yy time period the architectural life style didn't change too much. The houses were two floored in big gardens. The ground floors structure was stone, the other floors were wooden. This architectural style lived till I960' s without changing its specialty. After I960' s with economical and cultural developments Denizli became one of the important center of the country. With 1973 encouragement Denizli became industrialized. Following this industrialization population of city center increased with immigration and apartment buildings take place of old city houses. The wrong applied 1964 development plan took away the old city texture. Musa neighborhood and İstiklal neighborhood, where Greek immigrants live, are the only areas where can give a little idea about period time. This neighborhoods are analyzed and the houses which give idea about the historical time life styles are chosen. They are photographed and their plans were drawn. The special parts are dictated. The old researches about Denizli houses are found and interpreted. In this study, the historical and sociological factors behind the development of the town and their effects on the houses were analyzed.
