The effects of acute vibration application to fencers on visual reaction time

Abstract (EN)
Aim: The main purpose of this study is to find out the effects of acute vibration exercise applied to upper extremity of fencers on visual reaction time. Material and Methods: 51 volunteer male fencers between the ages of 15 and 25 (17.78 ± 2.70) participated in this study. Fencers are divided randomly to two groups. For the first group measurements of reaction time are taken and then after applying vibration, reaction time measured again. First, vibration was applied for second group, then reaction times are measured and after 30 minutes, another one applied. Vibration was applied 30 seconds during with 27 Hz, 2 mm amplitude. 5 repetitive reaction tests were applied to fencers after warming up. Participators started reaction test with standart guard position. According to 5 signals coming from target monitor with 2-5 second intervals, fencers made touch by attacking. Best reaction time values recorded without vibration and post vibration were compared each other. Findings: When visual reaction time periods measured without vibration compared to visual reaction time periods post vibration, it was observed statistically significant difference (p<0.001). Result: Acute vibration application shortened the visual reaction time period of fencers (p<0.001). Key Words: Vibration, visual reaction time, fencing.
