Özet (EN)
İn this thesis, firstly, canola oil metyl ester was produced by transesterification method which reduces the high viscosities of vegetable oils and blended with ethyl alcohol at %5, %10 and %15 ratios. İn addition to the blending, B100 (Biodiesel 100), BDE5 (biodiesel 95- ethyl alcohol 5), BDE10 and BDE15 fuel samples were obtained and investigated in a petroleum analysis lab in order to determine the fuel properties. İn the second stage, B100, BDE5, BDE10 and BDE15 fuel samples, with regard to compared with standart diesel fuel, were subject to the tests of engine performance and exhaust emissions in a four-cylinders, four-strokes, turbocharger, water cooled and common rail injection Renault brand diesel engine. The engine experiments were made in the ranges of %25-%30-%35-%40-%45-%50-%55 throttle and in the range of constant 1750 min-1, by taking engine torque, engine effective power and fuel consumption datas. On the other hand, engine exhaust emissions CO2, HC, PM and O2 datas was also taken. The graphics of the variables measured was drawed and interpreted. As a result of experimental studies, high viscosity of canola oil at 31 mm2/s was reduced to 4,7 mm2/s. The density of B100 fuel was measured as 0,88 g/cm3. As the ethanol content in biodiesel increased, kinematic viskosity, density, cetane number and thermal values of fuel samples decreased. At 45% throttle opening with minimum reduction in specific fuel consumption, B100, BDE5, BDE10 and BDE15 fuel samples showed an increase of %8-%12-%17-%25, respectively. Maximum engine torque was obtained at %45 throttle opening from standart diesel fuel with 103 Nm. As the proportion of ethanol in biodiesel increased, compared to standart diesel fuel, decreases in engine torque, engine effective power and effective efficiency values was observed. İn the cases of exhaust emissions, the highest soot emission value occured in standart diesel fuel. İncreased ethanol content in biodiesel reduced soot and HC emissions.
