Investigation of user experience design in the interaction oriented design model through packaging design workshop: Vision in design as a design method

As it is known, the importance of the "user experience" concept which ensures that the emotional ties between the final consumer and the product which starts spontaneously before the purchase and continues to develop afterward are taken into account within the design discipline is increasing. In the literature, the studies made to understand the "user experience"; seems to be formed within the framework of these three models: 'product oriented design', 'user oriented design' and 'interaction oriented design' With the foresight that there will be no experience without interaction and the user experience cannot be understood without understanding the interaction, it is thought that it may be appropriate to examine the user experience using the "interaction-oriented design" model. Although there are many theoretical studies in the literature to understand user experience, there is a lack of a method to guide designers in practice. For this reason, the aim of the study is to examine the concept of 'user experience', which is theoretically discussed in the study, in practice. After the literature review conducted within this framework, a packaging design workshop was organized in order to practice the model, and "Vision in Design" interaction-orianted method of Hekkert and Van Dijk was applied as the basic design method in the design process. Thus, for the first time, the method was tried to be practiced by us in a packaging design workshop. It is thought that studies on user experience in the field of packaging industry, which has a great competition in itself, will make a difference. In the method, first the meaning then the form of the packaging has been designed, so that the "mental" and "physical" communication of the packaging with the user was handled in a consistent manner and a meaningful design was tried to be presented. Finally, the applicability of the method was tried to be examined by considering the theoretical user experience design model perspective discussed in the study.
