An action research towards character education through activities: DKAB example

This study examines the contribution of the story method in developing students' readiness, abilities, consciousness, perceptions and attitudes towards character education activities. For this purpose, the effect of the story method on character education through activities was investigated. In this context, the aim of the research is to ensure that character education is carried out through stories in the 5th and 7th grade religious culture and moral knowledge course. In this context, activities were used as tools. Qualitative research method was used in the research process, data were obtained with the document review form, and evaluation was made with activity-based evaluation, descriptive analysis and content analysis. The research consists of two dimensions. The first dimension is qualitative research. Within the scope of the findings obtained by scanning domestic and foreign sources, the themes for character education were created within the framework of "Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge Course Curriculum" and "New Education Model". In this context, the sub-objectives of the research, titles, sub-titles, values and learning and teaching methods and techniques that can be used in character education have been determined. In the second dimension, the implementation of activities was carried out to achieve the targeted knowledge, skills and values within the scope of the themes of character education and the relevant curriculum. As a result of the evaluation of the activities implemented in the research phase in the context of learning outcomes, it was observed that there were positive changes in the students such as producing answers to the questions asked from a cognitive perspective, activating their mental abilities, internalizing the given subject, explaining the reason and how of a phenomenon in their own words, and getting excited about new information. In the process, the students followed the given instructions carefully and developed their self-confidence. These results were reflected in the research as important findings that the story method was effective in gaining character education.
