Comparison of the effects of choline and meso-inositol on liver and abdominal fat in broiler chickens, under presence of dietary methionine

Abstract (EN)
The present study was carried out to determine whether dietary supplemental methionine, choline, and meso-inositol affect growth performance, liver and serum lipid-triglyceride concentration of broilers. The basal diet contained approximately 22% crude protein and 3200 kcal ME/kg. 108 one-day-old female chicks (Ross 308) were divided nine treatments groups containing 12 birds each. The birds were fed basal diets (control, N), and four groups (A,B,C,D) were fed with addition of choline (mg/kg)+DL-methionine (%);1800+0.40, 1800+0.80, 3600+0.40 and 3600+0.80 respectively for 44 days period. The other four groups (E, G, H, K) were fed meso-inositol (mg/kg)+DL-methionine (%) supplemented; 800+0.40, 800+0.80, 1600+0.40 and 1600+0.80 respectively. During the experiment, which lasted 44 days, feed intake and body weight gain were recorded weekly. Birds were slaughtered for carcass, liver and abdominal fat weights at 44 days of age. At the end of the experiment five birds from each experimental group, with body weights around the average of the representative group, were selected and blood and liver samples were collected and were determined total lipid and triglyceride concentrations.The results showed that supplemental methionine, choline and meso-inositol had no signifcant effects on feed conversion ratio, abdominat fat weight, liver weight, liver triglyceride concentration and total lipid content in liver and serum (P>0.05).Feed intake and body weight gain were influenced significantly by treatment groups from the 2nd weeks of the experiment (P<0.05). There were significant differences in carcass weight and yields among the groups (P<0.05). Carcass weights were higher in groups A, B, C, G and H than in the control, but in groups D, E, and K were lower than the control. Carcass yield was significantly lower in A, D, G, H and K groups than the control group (P<0.05). Serum triglyceride concentration was affected by dietary treatments (P<0.05); serum triglyceride concentration were higher in all groups, except group A, than the control group.It is concluded that dietary supplemental 1800 mg/kg kolin + % 0.40 metiyonin and 1600 mg/kg meso-inositol + % 0.40 metiyonin combination may have positive effects on performance. Fat deposition was significantly decreased in animals receiving supplemental methionine, choline and meso-inositol at maximum level. Serum triglyceride concentration was decreased the groups receiving supplemental 800 mg/kg meso-inositol + %0.40 metiyonin.Key Words: Choline, Methionine, Meso-Inositol, Liver Lipid, Broiler
