Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out to determine the effects of adding glucose, fructose and sucrose to broiler diets on performance, oxidative stress and fat metabolism. Fructose and glucose syrups were obtained from corn, and sucrose was obtained from sugar beet. In the five-week trial, 80 newly hatched broiler chickens (ROSS 308) were divided into four feeding groups of 20 birds each of similar live weight (43.1 g). The animals were fed with basal ration (control group), supplemented with 10% glucose, 10% fructose and 10% sucrose for five weeks. Feed and water were given ad libitum. Broiler performance was assessed by recording weekly feed intake, weekly live weight gain, carcass weight and abdominal fat weight end of the experiment. At the end of the experiment all birds from each group were randomly chosen to take blood samples. The serum was analyzed for total oxidant/antioxidant capacity, paraoxonase, myeloperoxidase, total thiol, natural thiol, triglyceride and cholesterol concentrations. The results show that feed consumption, weight gain or liver weights were increased by sugar supplementation compared to the control group. Serum paraoxonase concentration has increased by sugar supplementation. The results obtained present study suggests that the supplementation of sugar increased performance and oxidative stress was reduced by treatment.
