Özet (EN)

This thesis examines whether the European Union (EU) Green Deal and aviation taxonomy on Turkish Airlines (THY). The EU Green Deal, which aims to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainability in various sectors, presents significant challenges and opportunities for sectors in particular. The study used a qualitative analysis method in the form of evaluating the company's compliance with the taxonomy criteria and its strategies to integrate sustainability into its operations by considering THY's sustainability reports between 2018 and 2023. The findings indicate that THY has taken important steps towards the progress of its sustainable practices, including fleet modernization, the use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) and efficiencies. However, problems such as fossil fuel-based relationships, financial constraints and comprehensive pressures continue and will be of critical importance. The research also emphasizes that the Green Deal has a broader scope on the Turkish Aviation sector and offers applicable recommendations for aligning sector practices with global sustainability goals. This thesis, which reveals that THY has taken a leading role in sustainable aviation practices, contributes to the comprehensive transition to more environmentally friendly practices in the activity sector. The study emphasizes the long-term temperature and economic sustainability increase of development, green resources and international cooperation. This thesis applies a SWOT analysis that is consistent with practices in international literature. Keywords: EU Green Deal, aviation taxonomy, sustainability, Turkish Airlines, sustainable aviation flows, efficiency
