Abstract (EN)

Women living and working in Western countries experience more stress than non-working women. The reason for this is that working women take more responsibility, adapt to marriage and have some difficulties in fulfilling their responsibilities. However, it is seen that the opposite of this situation is true in eastern countries. Even if it is said that there is more patriarchal structure in eastern countries, people who do not actually work are dependent on men, they cannot live their own ego and have more stressed when they are not working, because they feel powerless against men. In this study, the effect of self respect and social comparisons on coming strategies among houseviwes was aimed to be investigated. To achieve that aim, it was investigated whether self respect and social comparison levels of houseviwes has some level of predictive power on the coping strategies used by them. Additionally, one further aim of that study was to investigate whether or not coping strategies of houseviwes was showing difference based on some demographical variables. During the study, 200 houseviwes ın June of 2019 were interviewed by the researcher. During the study, Rosenberg Self Respect Scale, Social Comparison Scale and Coping Strategies Scale were used to measure the relevant constructs of the participants. T-test and ANOVA were used for parametric data, and Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis tests were used for the difference of stress coping styles, self-esteem and social comparison scores according to personal and family characteristics. According to the results of the difference analysis, self-observation, antistress methods and social comparison showed significant differences according to the demographic characteristics of housewives (p <0.05). According to the results of the correlation analysis, a statistically significant and positive relationship was established between self-esteem and self-confident approach, helpless approach, obedient approach and compliance with social support. According to the results of the regression analysis, the most promising effect of social comparison is the helpless method and the optimistic approach and self-esteem. As a limitation of the study, it is considered that a qualitative research will be conducted to examine why early maturing early adopters had to adopt a submissive approach, and that semi-structured interviews with this group would be useful in this context, the findings will be discussed and discuss in light of the literature.
