Evaluation of liver enzymes in patients with thalassemia in Kirkuk city

The purpose of this thesis was to investigate the association between thalassemic patients' blood iron levels, liver enzyme levels, and HCV infection. The study consist of 80 thalassaemi C patients (40 males, 40 females) and 40 obviously healthy individuals matched, their ages ranging from (3-30 years). From June 2022 to April 2022, 80 people were reported to have thalassemia and HCV infection at Azadi Teaching Hospital and Al-Jumhuri hospital. These categories make up the subjects of the research: Group 1: Thirty-five patients and fifteen healthy volunteers participated, spanning an age range of (1-10) years for both sexes. Group 2: It included a total of 33 patients and 12helthy subjects, their ages ranged from (11-20) years for both gender. Group 3: This group included 12 patients and 13 healthy subjects and their ages ranged from (21-30) years for both gender. Fourteen out of 12.5 people tested positive for hepatitis C, whereas just 1 tested positive for hepatitis B. The ferritin levels of the patients were much greater than those of the controls (P<0.05). The concentration of TIBC was considerably (P<0.05) lower in the patient group compared to the control group. There were statistically (P<0.05) greater levels of ALT, AST, ALP, and LDH in the livers of thalassemia patients compared to healthy controls.
