The effects of the home based parent education program about day time toilet training in acquiring the skills of dryness recording and of giving day time toilet training of the mothers and in acquiring day time toilet controlling of the children

General purpose of this study is to assess the effects of The Home Based Parent Education Program About Day Time Toilet Training in acquiring the skills of dryness recording and giving day time toilet training by the mothers and in acquiring day time toilet controlling of the children, and to evaluate the program as to intervention reliability and social validity.The design used in this study is ?AB design? which is one of the single subject experimental designs. The subjects of this study are three of the mothers and three of their mentally handicapped children who are attending two of private special education and rehabilitation centers of TSK GULSAV and who have not gained day time toilet controlling skill. To collect the data, preliminary assessment form, family interview form, the recording forms of mother?s target behaviours, the recording forms of children?s urinates, the forms of intervention reliability and social validity were used.All phases of the study were implemented at children?s home. At the first phase of the home based parent education program, mothers were trained how recording child?s urinates. Then they recorded their child?s urinating. At the second phase of the home based parent education program, mothers were trained how they must apply the intervention of day time toilet training to their child and then they have applied it. Data of the study were given in graphs and the graphs were qualitatively interpreted.The findings are as follows;-At the end of the implementation of the The Home Based Parent Education Program About Day Time Toilet Training, mothers involved in the study realized all the sub-objectives of the skills that are recording child?s urinates and applying to their child the intervention of day time toilet training.--Toilet training intervention implemented by mothers who were gained the objectives of The Home Based Parent Education Program About Day Time Toilet Training, caused to all of children have acquired day time toilet training.--At the end of the toilet training intervention it was determined that children who gained day time toilet training have continued this skill 3,10 and 17 days later.--When The Home Based Parent Education Program About Day Time Toilet Training was evaluated as to intervention reliability and social validity, it was determined that this program has very high rates of intervention reliability and social validity.
