A study on changing character of the tradition marriage: Virtual environment and marriage

We preferred to name our masters thesis as ?A Study on Changing Character of the Tradition Marriage: Virtual Environment and Marriage?. We selected this thesis with the aim of questioning transition to process of marriage via virtual chat in internet in terms of folklore, which is marriage by chat, from traditional marriage models in Turkey, and to determine the extent of consistency with the codes of marriage tradition models.In line with our principle question ?Does internet change marriage models?, ?Are the codes consistent? we detected traditional marriage codes in verbal Turkish society, considering types of marriage tradition model in historical background. With questionnaire study conducted to hundred participants our thesis was supported and the attitudes of people in Turkey about internet and marriage were handledWith the aim of determining new image, change and codes against city, technology and globalization, marriage sites, matchmaker sites, friend, darling, spouse search-find sites were searched. The stories of people who married via meeting in virtual environment were also searched in the internet. News and comments in written media between 2004 - 2008 were collected by archive study.With this study we found that in today?s conditions with the help of technologic developments our traditions and customs were still in use.In this period, during which traditional marriage models still continue, with technologic developments in the future, the process of meeting and marrying via internet will be included.
