The relationships among self- esteem, jealousy, marital conflict and marital satisfaction, in married people

The objective of this study is to examine the relationship between self esteem, jealousy level, marital conflicts and marital satisfaction of married people, and to determine if these variables differ with gender, age, education level, duration of marriage, type of marriage, number of children.The sample of the research consist of 200 married individuals ( 111 female-89 male). The scales which are handed out to participants who reside in 7 different neighborhoods of Ankara city center and are willing to take part in the research, were applied by the researcher. The sample of the research was chosen by easy-accessible sampling method.The participants were handed out a personal information form (PIF) which was prepared by researcher, namely, Coopersmith Self-esteem Inventory (Coopersmith, 1986), Romantic Jealousy Scale (Pines and Aranson, 1983), Marital Life Scale (Hatipoğlu, 1993) and Marital Satisfaction Scale (Çelik , 2006). SPSS 20.0 is used for the analyze of the data, t-test, multiple regression analysis, and Pearson Moment Correlation Coefficient were used to analyze the data.It was found out that that, marital satisfaction is strongly related to marial conflict; and a low level of significant relationship was found between self-esteem and marital satisfaction. Also, it was found out that, self-esteem is negatively related at a moderate level to marital conflicts experienced by the individuals. It was found out that there was not any significant relationship between jealousy level and other variables. According to the t-test results, it has been found that marriage type is related to marital satisfaction, self-esteem is related to age, jealousy level is related to education level and age and marital conflict is related to gender. A significant difference was not found among the other variables.
