Abstract (EN)

The aim of the study is to examine whether marital conflict, conflict resolution styles and marital adjustment differs according to some variables and whether there is a meaningful relation with their marital conflict, conflict resolution styles and marital adjustment. In addition the aim of the study is to investigate the predictive power of marital conflict and conflict resolution styles of marital individuals on marital adjustment.The universe of the research is 113 volunteer couples (226 persons) residing in İzmir. As a tool to gather data to measure marital conflict ?Marital Conflict Questionnaire?, to evaluate conflict resolution styles ?Conflict Resolution Styles Scale?, to measure marital adjustment ?Marital Adjustment Test?, and for the demographic features ?Individual Information Form? were used.To analyze data, SPSS 15.0 was used. T-test, variant analysis, correlation and multiple regression analysis were used to analyze data gathered from scales and demographic features of the participants.Findings: Some significantly differences have beeen detected in the field of frequency of marital conflict depending on who started the conflict, in the field of negative conflict resolution styles depending on the number of the children being possessed, in the field of marital adjustment depending on having any children or not, in the field of positive and negative conflict resolution styles depending on the levels of education, in the positive resolution style depending on the female employment condition and in the field of conflict expansion depending on sex of individuals.Some relations with marital conflict, conflict resolution styles and marital adjustment depending on sex of marrried individuals have been found that are considered to have some signifance which is carried by entire participants both male and female.It has been found that there is a fair explanation to women?s conflict expansion and negative conflict resolution style, men?s conflict expansion and subordination and for all participants? conflict expansion, positive conflict resolution style, negative conflict resolution style and subordination.Key Words: Marriage, conflict, marital conflict, conflict resolution style, marital adjustment
