Abstract (EN)
This study aims to analyse the effects of conflict and harmony on the level of depression in marriage. For this purpose, with a simple random sampling method from forty married couples selected and eighty people and data were collected with marital harmony, marital conflict and beck depression scale in two months. It is confirmed that there was a statistically significant moderate level positive relationship between depression and marital conflict (p<0.01). There was also a moderate level relationship between marital harmony and type of marital conflict which was statistically significant (p<0.01). Type of the marital conflict in married couples significantly predicted the level of depression. The score of the marital harmony varied significantly, according to the type of marriage (p<0.001); people who have arranged marriages got higher (2,307 points) marital harmony scores than those who have flirted prior to marriage. Level of marital conflict varied with the type of marriage and there was a significant difference between the level of marital conflict among couples who were in arranged marriages and those who have flirted prior to marriage. The score of the harmony in marriage varied according to the number of children the couple have (p<0.05); who have 1 to 2 children had significantly higher scores than those without children (p<0.05). These results indicate that the couples who have children have much more harmony in their marriage, compared with couples without children.
