Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this research is to examine and compare the family functionality level and the psychological features seen in couples who are still married and those who are in progress of divorce.The subject of the research is married couples. The sampling of this research is married couples who live in İzmir and the divorce cases. These couples were taken from the family court house 2, Law Court, İzmir. The sampling consists of 103 couples who are in progress of divorce and 100 who are still married.In this research, Personal Information Form (PIF), Family Assessment Scale (FAS) and Short Symptom Inventory (SSI) have been used to collect data.To resolve data the statistical package SPSS 16.0. Programme has been used. The T- test has been used to compare the scores obtain from the participants? demographic features, family assessment scale, and short symptom inventory.Variables among correlative relations have been analysed by using the Pearson Moment Multiplication Correlation Technique.The following findings have been reached. Differentiation in all sub-dimension of Family Assessment Scale have been found in couples who are still married and those who are in progress of divorce. Couples who are still married have scored better in the Family Assessment Scale. Couples in need of psychological support have scored higher in all aspects apart from showing the required interest and behaviour control have been found when couples in need of psychological support compared to couples not in need of psychological support. It has been found that the Short Symptom Inventory of married couples who are in progress of divorce have scored higher in the levels of depression, interpersonal sensitivity and hostility.
