An investigation between anger expression styles and marital adjustment in married couples.

This study is designed examine the relationship between anger expression styles and marital adjustment in married individuals. Also, some socio-demographic variables related to anger expression styles and marital adjustment were analyzed in terms of predicting marital adjustment. The sample of the research was selected from 216 married individuals residing in Izmir. State-Trait Anger Expression Styles Scale and Marital Adjustment Scale were used to collect data. In addicting, using the ? Personal Information Form? which was developed by the researcher. SPSS 15.0 was used to analyze the data collected in this research. Correlation and Multiple Regression analysis, t test, ANOVA were conducted to analyze the data. The results show that there is a significant relationship between anger expression styles and marital adjustment. In this study, ıt was found out that gender, occupation, working or nonworking, the frequency of communication problems with the partner, communication problems with families and other people are significantly related with State-Trait Anger Expression Scale. Moreover, ıt was found out that level of education, occupation, the number of children, working or nonworking, perceived socioeconomic status, the frequency of communication problems with the partner, the frequency of communication problems with families and other people are significantly related with marital adjustment in couples. Among the predictors of marital adjustment were the frequency of communication problems with partner, duration of marriage and the frequency of problems with the family of origin. The three variables mentioned above were found to explain 51 percent of the total variance of marital adjustment. The results are discussed and some suggestion are presented.
