The assesment of marital satisfaction in the context of values, communication skills and sociodemographic variables

In this study, it is aimed to examine marital satisfaction in terms of values, communication skills and socio-demographic variables. A total of 345 people, 229 women and 116 men, between the ages of 23-67 participated in the study. Marital Life Scale, The Valued Living Questionnaire, Communication Skills Scale-Adult Form and socio-demographic questionnaire form were used to collect the study data. Frequency analysis, descriptive statistical analysis, reliability analysis, pearson correlation analysis, stepwise multiple linear regression analysis, independent sample t-test, one-way analysis of variance and two-way analysis of variance were used in the analysis of study data. According to the findings of the study, marital satisfaction was found to be positively related to the valued living consistency subscale, and negatively related to sociodemographic variables such as age and duration of marriage. However, marital satisfaction was found to be unrelated to valued living importance subscale and communication skills. In addition, it was observed that the marital satisfaction level of the males was higher than the marital satisfaction level of the females. In the study, it was determined that the marital satisfaction level of those who did not have children was higher than those who had two children, three children, and those who had four or more children. However, it was observed that there was no difference between the marital satisfaction levels of the education status groups, employment status groups, income status groups, type of marriage status groups, living in rural or urban groups and age difference groups between spouses. Finally, it was determined that there was no interaction between the sociodemographic variable groups in terms of marital satisfaction level. The findings obtained as a result of the study and the findings in the literature were compared and discussed.
