The predi̇cti̇ve role of personality traits, relationship beliefs and conflict resolution styles i̇n mari̇tal adjustment(Sample of Di̇yarbakır)

In the study, primarily the answer of whether there is a significant relationship between the personality traits, relationship beliefs and conflict resolution styles was investigated. As the secondary objective, whether there is any significant difference between demographics variables such as sex, number of children, education level, income level, marriage type with respect to marital adjustment. Finally, we researched predict the marital adjustment with respect to personality traits, relationship beliefs and conflict resolution styles. The working group of our study consisted of married individuals living in the city center of Diyarbakır and married for at least one year. The study was conducted with 656 married individuals in total: 292 women and 364 men. Dyadic Adjustment Scale (DAS), Five Factor Personality Scale (FFPS), Relationship Beliefs Inventory (RBI), Conflict Resolution Styles Scale (CRSS) and Personal Information Form were applied to the married couples in the study. For the analysis of the data obtained, the methods of the Pearson correlation coefficient, one-way ANOVA analysis and multi-variable regression analysis was used. According to the relationship analysis performed between FFPS, an RBI and CRSS scores, a positive significant relationship was found between total scores of dyadic adjustment obtained from DAS and positive conflict, extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness and openness to experience dimensions. A negatively significant relationship was determined between total scores of dyadic adjustment obtained from DAS and negative conflict, neuroticism, disagreement is destructive, sexes are different and partners don't change dimensions. It has been concluded that the marital adjustment of the individuals varies according to their gender, age, number of children and the type of marriage variables, but not according to educational level, age difference, income level and whether the spouses are relatives or not. It has also been found that the strongest variables that predict the marital adjustment is neuroticism in terms of personality traits, are positive conflict, negative conflict and withdrawal with respect to conflict resolution styles, and are partners don't change and disagreement is destructive for the relationship beliefs.
