Abstract (EN)
This study analyses the material expectations of young learners and teenagersin English lessons. When the characteristics of each age group are identified, theimportance of choosing right activity types for each group is highlighted as well. Ifthe activity types and choice of materials appeal to age groups appropriately,language learning will become an enjoyable, memorable and interesting experience.The work is composed of five chapters and the first chapter aims to give thepurpose of the study. However, the second chapter informs readers about the relatedstudies made in the field. After identifying young learners, the ideas of philosophersand educational psychologists are presented chronologically about how childrenlearn. Then, teenagers and the way they learn are defined. Finally, language teachingmaterials and their characteristics are introduced in detail.In chapter three, methodology, data collection and analysis techniques aredescribed. Pre- test results gathered from both groups are analyzed and sample lessonplans which are followed by post- tests analysis of students and observers areexemplified. This chapter ends with a conclusion section.Chapter four consists of suggested activity types and materials for younglearners and teenagers.The last chapter includes conclusions which are derived from the findings.The study has six appendices; full version of the questionnaire so called pre-test -one in Turkish and one in English, the post test with English and Turkish translationand finally the one for observers which is in English and in Turkish again.
