The classification of mecmua of faiz efendi and Şakir Beyaccording to the Project of Systematic Classification of Mecmuas (MESTAP)

Mecmuas are important sources for the study of divan literature. Poetry is the genre which stands out in these works. The Mecmua by Faiz Efendi and Şâkir Bey, which we are working on, is one such mecmua of poetry. It is recorded with the document number 763 of Halet Efendi Collection in Süleymaniye Library. This work is important in terms of revealing many works of poetry belonging to the Tulip Period. It was penned to gather the poems dedicated to the Sultan Ahmed III and the Grand Vizier Damat İbrahim Paşa. Although the dominant poetic form is kaside in this work, it is also possible to notice many historical manzumes written for the sultan and the grand vizier. Mecmua of Faiz Efendi and Şâkir Bey, which can be said to be eminent among its counterparts in terms of richness of content and sheer volume, is composed of 636 leaves and 502 poems. We have classified it according to the standards put forth by the Project of the Systematic Classification of Mecmuas. Our research has involved the transcription of various poems in the form of müseddes, tebrikname, teşekkürname, lugaz, manzume, nazm, muaşşer, kıt´a, tahmis, mesnevi, arzuhal and musammats. These poems have been compared with their original versions in the divans. The detected differences can be found in the footnotes. The differences in terms of metrics and the missing couplets have also been pointed out in the footnotes. Besides known poems, there are unknown poems of the poets in the mecmua. This is also the case in the other mecmuas. Unheard poets and poems can be found in the mecmuas. Main objective of our research is to bring to light the works of some unknown poets, and to introduce their names to the researchers in the field.
