The place and importance of Fahri Sümer and his works in the art of contemporary Turkish painting

He graduated from Istanbul State Fine Arts Academy Painting Department in 1965 with Cemal Tollu, Halil Dikmen, Neset Günal's workshop and worked at Sabri Berkel's gravure workshop. Prof. Dr. Fahri Sumer has an important place in Contemporary Turkish Painting. The purpose of this study is; Fahri Sumer's life, art life, the choice of subjects, technique, style, influenced artists and movements of ideas are investigated and the importance of his paints and his artworks in Turkish Art is determined. In this research, all publications of the painter were collected and evaluated. Interviewed about artist's artwork face to face with artist . Subject is examined with art history perspective, technical knowledge is required to be completely confined to the information obtained from interviews with the artist. All the works in his studio are documented by photographing. Works are grouped according to subject types and painting techniques, chronologically purported the artworks in each group according to the subject types. We tried to interpret the style and artistic understanding of the artist in all the knowledges of the data we obtained and collected. On the other hand art belong to social area because of this feature art can be varied according to everyone's liking and approach. It is no matter how much research is done, it is certain that every researcher will have a different result.
