The effect of anterior segment parametes in silicone oil injected phakic and pseudophakic patients after pars plana vitrectomy

Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate anterior segment changes after pars plana vitrectomy and silicone oil injected, to compare these changes with silikone oil filled phakic and pseudophakic eyes. Material and Method:50 eyes of 50 patients who underwent pars plana vitrectomy by one surgeon in Gaziantep University Hospital Eye Clinic were evaluated preoperatively, first week and first month after surgery. The patients were divided into two groups, eyes with silicone injection after combined cataract and vitrectomy and eyes who are previosly pseudophakic with silicone injection after only vitrectomy.Preop and postop anterior chamber volume (ACV), anterior chamber depth (ACD), anterior chamber angle (ACA) and central corneal thickness (CCT) obtained with SiriusR (CSOTM, Italy) were compared. Results:Each group consisted of 25 patients.In group 1 significant difference was detected among preop and postop changes in ACV, ACD and ACA values (p<0,05); In group 2 no significant difference was detected (p>0,05). İn each group no significant difference was detected among postop 1 week and 1 month rate of changes in anterior segment parameters. The increase of CCT in both of groups at postop 1 week and then decrease at postop 1 month were also significant (p<0,05). Conclusion: Combined pars plana vitrectomy has reasonable effects on cornea and anterior segment.this change is more evident in the first week. in previosly pseudophakic eyes, anterior segment paremetres remained fairly stable and no significant difference was detected (p<0,05).
