Fandom: Admiration of South Korea and South Korean series as a carrier of culture

Culture is a concept that encompasses an entire lifestyle of individuals and societies. As a result of the cultural dimension of globalization, individuals and groups living in a variety of regions of the world are able to adopt similar forms of life. In recent years, the development of digital technologies and the proximity of cultural distances are getting closer to be at hand. The consequences of those cultural changes, where Internet use and the media products play a vital role, local and global elements combine together to contribute the cultural richness. In addition, the similarities between two countries including sort traditions, languages, dialects and lifestyles are grasped as the hallmarks of the cultural proximities. There is a cultural proximity between South Korea and Turkey in the scope of their historical heritage and the particular traditions. The purpose of this research; to reveal the Turkish admiration for the influences of the increasing number of South Korean culture around the world in recent years and to make an analysis over South Korea fans. Therefore, this thesis asserts that the reasons why fans of South Korea seems univocal with Turkish fans in terms of their cultural practises, according to those increasing shifts. South Korea culture is labelled as Korean Wave in the social sciences' field, by way of the TV dramas before globalization as a result of the cultural dimension in Asian countries, have been influential in other parts of the world and also followed by Turkey. However, because of their shared historical backgrounds and similar cultural codes, the adoption by fans and giving a reference for us, to the phenomenon of "fandom" between the two countries, can be explained by the concept of "cultural proximity." In this study, the data that is gathered by using structured interviews with the fans of South Korea in Turkey. And this data had been evaluated by data content (frequency) analysis.
