Relationship between politics and ethics

It is Fârâbû who did the first systematic study about the relationshibetween politics and ethics at Islamic philosophy. Although Fârâbû wasinfluenced from classical Greek philosophy he had his own opinions on thismatter.Fârâbû established a metaphysical philosophical system within theframework of the theoretical philosophic approach that is different fromscientific philosophy. Politics and ethics that have declared their autarchieswith their own scientific disciplines are nested at Fârâbû?s philosophy. WhatFârâbû aimed with supplemental attitude between politics and ethics is ahappy individual, a state with its happy folks and even a world that havehappy nations. However, reaching happiness has its own rules. The rules forindividual?s happiness are determined by the science of ethics. On the otherhand, the conditions that will lead the society to the happiness aredetermined by the science of politics. In this context, political life is themandatory requirement to realize ethical life Nonetheless Fârâbû assertedsome original visions about the source of state, classification of societies, thehead of state and his qualifications, happiness and virtue.Positivist science understanding and the acceptance of Machiavelli inpolitics both theoretically and practically have complicated today?s politicalunderstanding. Fârâbû?s approach towards politics and ethics will inspire theones who try to constitute an ethical basis for political applications.
