Abstract (EN)
In this study, two main answers to the question of how the state, and more generally society, emerged, which is a fundamental problem in terms of political philosophy, are two important thinkers in terms of both their place in the tradition they represent and their place in the history of philosophy; It has been tried to reveal Farabi's and Hobbes's thoughts on political philosophy, and therefore their views on the state, which is the focus of their political philosophies, both from their own perspectives and from the perspective of the philosophical thoughts they are influenced by. Both Farabi and Hobbes have built different understandings of state with different philosophical foundations with their political philosophy understandings. While Farabi built a state understanding with metaphysical foundations on the ground of idealist philosophy, Hobbes built a mechanical materialist understanding of state on the ground of materialist philosophy. While Farabi sees the state as a part of human nature as a natural entity, Hobbes defines the state as an artificial entity that does not derive its source from human nature. While Farabi revealed how a virtuous city and society should be in terms of political philosophy, in his work called "The Virtuous City", Hobbes also revealed the structure of society and the state in his work called "Leviathan", in which he deals with the social contract. In this respect, a comparison of the political philosophy and therefore the state understanding of two philosophers, who have two different philosophical foundations and different traditions in terms of political philosophy, has been made.
