Abstract (EN)

The objective of this research is to find out the expectations of the students in elemantary school in terms of differents variants such as teacher, the process of learning-teaching, physical environment, equipment and socail activities. In this thesis which is in a descriptive structure, a survey entitled as ?Expectations of the Students From School?, consisting of 30 different questions and regulated by searcher after a number of studies in terms of reliability and validity, was used as medium of collecting data. This survey was regulated in 5-point Likert-type scale to be able to detect the expectations of students from the perspective of teacher, the process of learning- teaching, physical environment, equipment and social activities. These surveys were carried out during the first semester of 2009-2010 education year. The population of this research is the students from 6th, 7th, 8th grades in elemantary school. As samples, 904 students chosen randomly from ten elemantary schools in five central district were included. In this research, frequency distribution, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, t test, one-way analysis of variance test were used for statistical solutions of collected data. In difference tests, the level of significance was taken as p<.05.Findings reveal that the expectations of students from schools were met. When analyzed in terms of different perspectives, it is seen that the maximum meeting of expectations is in teacher perspective which is equal to =3.88. This is followed respectively by learning and teaching activities which is equal to =3.86, social activities perspective which is equal to =3.61 and physical environment and equipments which are equal to =3.27.The situations in which the expectations of the students are met at highest level are teacher?s giving course in a proper way in relation with the content of the course and their having effective communication ability like giving a lecture in a emphatic way. The situations in which the expectations of the students are met at lowest level are the uncomfortable seats and school canteens which cannot properly meet the needs of students. The expectations of 6th grade students are met in a higher rate in comparison with the expectations of 7th and 8th grade students in terms of class level variant. It is also seen that the level of meeting the expectations of the students is deteriorating in accordance with the increase of grade. While the level of meeting the expectations of girl students is higher in comparison with that of boy students in terms of teacher, the process of learning-teaching; there is not a crucial difference between boys and girls in terms of physical environment, equipment and social activities. When these findings are taken into consideration, it is possible to point out that suggestions were given for scientific researches about the level of meeting the expectations of the students that might be carried out in near future.
