Abstract (EN)

-V- ABSTRACT Barley is a cereal crop has been grown widespreadly in Turkey. it can grow well at humid conditions. it does not like höt ör cold. The best barley soils are higher organic matter content, loamy and nötr soils. The purpose of this study was to detennine the effect of nitrogen on agronomic characters, yield and yield compenents, quality charecters at two malting barleys. Five nitrogen levels which were O, 4, 8, 12 and 16 kg/da were used and the nitrogen fertilizers were appüed at two times. The first hah0 of the nitrogen was applied before planthıg, the other half at tillering stage. The genotypes used in the experiment were late Şerife Hanım and Kaya. This experiment was conducted in the experiment fîelds of the Field Crops Department of Faculty of Agriculture at Adnan Menderes University in 2003-2004 growing period. A field experiment was conducted as a randomized complete block design with three replications. in conclusion, the best nitrogen doze to obtain higher yield and better quality for Kaya and Şerife Hanım was 4 ör 8 kg/da, it was cocluded that 4 kg/da nitrogen döşe was good enough for acceptable yield and quality. KEY WORDS: Barley, yield, nitrogen fertilization, quality, malting barley
