Abstract (EN)

Although there are suitable ecological regions that can produce high yield and quality sweet corn in Turkey, there are not study conducted with this plant. The aim of this study was to evaluate the yield and quality characteristics of different sweet corn cultivars in Tokat-Kazova conditions. The study was conducted with 16 sweet corn cultivars in a Randomized Blocks Experimental Design with three replications. Each plot was planted with 4 rows of corn at fixed intervals with 70 cm between rows and 20 cm above the row. A row sorghum was planted between two cultivars to prevent pollination between plots. In the study, significant differences were found among sweet corn cultivars grown for fresh consumption in all parameters examined. According to the obtained results; top tassel emergence period was 41.3-47.3 days, ear tassel emergence period was 46.7-53.0 days, maturity period was 65.3-73.7 days, plant height was 118.4-212.4 cm, ear length was 18.4-22.8 cm, ear diameter was 38.7-47.6 mm, number of rows per ear was 14.2-17.5 pieces, ear tip gap was 0.23-1.24 cm, number of grain per ear was 544.7-747.3 pieces, single ear yield was 167.4-245.8 g, fresh grain weight on single ear was 89.5-153.8 g, number of marketable ear per plant was 0.83-1.49 pieces, number of marketable ear per decare was 4655.0-8649.7 pieces, fresh ear yield per decare was 905.7-1493.0 kg/da, fresh grain yield per decare was 599.0-961.7 kg/da, fodder yield was 2272.0-5840.7 kg/da, and water soluble dry matter was 13.3-23.2 °Brix was found in the range. According to the results of the one-year research, were prominent Vega, Macaron, Jubilee and Sherbet cultivars in both fresh ear yield and fresh grain yield, Mirza, Kompozit-Şeker-2, Caramelo and Argos cultivars in quality. As a result, it was determined that will gain importance corn cultivation for fresh consumption with the production of high yield and quality sweet corn cultivars in Tokat-Kazova conditions.
