Abstract (EN)

Aim: The aim of this experimental study is to examine the effectiveness of desensitizing agents with different remineralizing mechanisms in occluding dentinal tubules and their stability against acid exposure using micro-CT device. Material and method: In this study, 40 permanent human molar teeth were used. Forty dentin blocks were obtained from the dentinoenamel junction with the precision cutting device. The discs were randomly divided into 4 groups as Enamelast, Nupro Sensodyne Paste, Tooth Mousse, and Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief Desensitizing Paste. Each group was scanned 3 times on micro-CT, without any action, after the application of desensitizing agent, and after holding the demineralizing agent, respectively. In addition, a sample from each group was imaged with SEM. Result: Statistical analysis showed a change in mineral density between the Nupro and Colgate groups after application of the desensitizing agent (p=0.042). There was no significant difference between the other groups in terms of mineral density levels. The group with the highest increase in mineral density was Colgate, followed by Enamelast, Toothmouse and Nupro groups, respectively. A significant difference was found between Toothmouse and Colgate groups (p=0.002) and between Enamelast and Colgate groups (p<0.001) in mineral density changes after demineralization. There was no significant difference between the other groups. The group with the highest decrease in mineral density value was Enamelast, followed by Tooth Mousse, Nupro and Colgate groups, respectively. Conclusion: Although mineral density values increased after the application of desensitizing agents in all samples used in the study, they did not show sufficient resistance to demineralization. The greatest increase in mineral density and the greatest resistance to demineralization were in the Colgate group.
