Abstract (EN)

Although dentine tubules are exposed in the mouth of many individuals, dentine sensitivity only arises in some of them. In this study, it is aimed to investigate the effectiveness of six toothpastes with different contents used in dentine sensitivity in closing dentine tubules in vitro. In this study, 60 dentine samples were obtained from the third molars and divided into six different application groups. The toothpastes used are: 1) Sensodyne Rapid Relief®, 2) Prevdent®, 3) Thodent®, 4) Twin Lotus®, 5) Agard Propolis®, 6) Chitodent® toothpastes. 37% orthophosphoric acid applied to all samples to remove the smear layer and expose dentine tubules. Then, in the toothbrush simulator, the samples were brushed together with the prepared toothpaste and artificial saliva mixture corresponding to the one month brushing period. All samples were examined in SEM to view the occlusion of dentine tubules. Prevdent® toothpaste with nanohydroxyapatite was found to be statistically more effective than the other toothpastes in terms of occluding open dentine tubules (p <0.05). In all groups, the number of open dentine tubules decreased after brushing. Theodent® with theobromine content and Twin Lotus® with herbal content were found to be statistically similar in terms of tubule occlusion (p> 0.05).
