Investigation of the effect of different irrigation solutions on push-out bond strenght of new generation perforation repair materials

Abstract (EN)

Aim: The aim of this study is to examine the effect of different irrigation solutions on the bond strength of ProRoot MTA NeoPutty and Endocem MTA Premixed. Materials and Methods: In this study 60 extracted permanent upper central teeth were used. 180 sections obtained from the teeth were randomly divided into 3 groups (n = 60): Group 1: ProRoot MTA, Group 2: NeoPutty, Group 3: Endocem MTA Premixed. After perforation repair materials were placed in the canal spaces, each group was divided into 4 subgroups (n = 15): Control, normal saline, 5.25% NaOCl, and 17% EDTA. The samples were kept in normal saline and NaOCl solution for 30 minutes and in EDTA for 5 minutes. The bond strength of the samples was measured with the push-out test in a universal testing machine. A stereomicroscope was used to determine the type of failure at the material and dentin interface. Results: The bond strenght values of NeoPutty were significantly lower (p<0.005) while the highest bond strenght values were observed in the ProRoot MTA and Endocem MTA Premixed groups. Exposure to normal saline, 5.25% NaOCl and 17% EDTA solutions did not affect the bond strength of Endocem MTA Premixed. While NaOCl and EDTA did not change the bond strength of ProRoot MTA (p˃0.05), normal saline significantly decreased the bond strength of the material (p<0.05). While normal saline and EDTA did not affect the bond strength of NeoPutty (p˃0.05), NaOCl significantly decreased the bond strength (p<0.05). While the dominant bond failure type was cohesive in ProRoot MTA and Endocem MTA Premixed, the mix bond failure type was seen more in NeoPutty. Conclusion: Bond strength values of ProRoot MTA and Endocem MTA Premixed were significantly higher than NeoPutty. While the bond strength of Endocem MTA Premixed is not affected after exposure to various irrigation solutions, normal saline decreased the bond strength of ProRoot MTA and NaOCl decreased the bond strength of NeoPutty.
