In a constantly changing world, the individuals come across with different problems. In recent years, one of the most frequent workspace problems is the burnout syndrome. The rate of burnout syndrome is significantly high in some occupational groups, whose members have to establish a face to face interaction with other people and are exposed to stress in business life. It can be said that, the burnout feeling, which can appear both physically and psychologically, may put an individual into an intention to leave. In this context, this study aims to determine whether the burnout syndrome has an influence on the intention to leave. In addition, it also aims to reveal if the generation variable, when combined with the burnout syndrome, has an effect on intention to leave as well as analyzing whether the burnout syndrome and intention to leave differs from one generation to other. In this study, "The relationship between burnout syndrome and the intention to leave in different generations" is analyzed. Within the scope of the study, the questionnaire which is prepared by using the 22 point "Maslach Burnout Inventory" developed by Maslach and Jackson (1981), and the 3 point "Intention to Leave" scale developed by Cammann et al. (1983) is conducted on 250 healthcare personnel. In data evaluation, a data processing software is used. In analyzing the data, the t-test, Anova, Tukey and regression tests are employed. In the result section of the study, it is clearly seen that generally the burnout syndrome increases the intention to leave. After including the generation variable, when the relationship between burnout syndrome and intention to leave is analyzed, a positive relationship is revealed. When the relationship between burnout syndrome for different generations and intention to leave is analyzed, it is seen that, burnout syndrome level of the participants who belong to Generation Y is higher than that of the members of Generation X and Baby Boomers. As they live in an era of advanced technology and are accustomed to rapid changes, the participants from Generation Y have a higher rate of intention to leave when compared to the participants from Generation X. Later on, the socio-demographic backgrounds, the variations between burnout syndrome and intention to leave is analyzed for Generations X, Y and Baby Boomers separately. According to socio-demographic variables, there is no significant difference between burnout syndrome and the intention to leave in Baby Boomer generation, while there is a significant difference for the participants from generation X when their level of education, seniority, perceptions of business life and profession decision variables are taken into consideration. In addition, for the participants from generation Y, there is a statistically significant difference between burnout syndrome and the intention to leave in respect to gender, sector, profession, perception of business life and profession decision variables.
