Abstract (EN)
Thiamethoxam is a broad-spectrum neonicotinoid insecticide and it is used in the world for pest control in agriculture. Due to its extensive usage, high water solubility and stability, the residues of the Thiamethoxam persistent in the environment produce adverse effects. All above facts indicate the need for new, simple and low cost analytical methods for the determination of Thiamethoxam, both in commercial formulations and samples from the environment. Molecular imprinted polymers have a big potential in clean-up stage and sensing of the pesticide residues. According to our literature survey, there is not any published paper dealing with molecularly Thiamethoxam imprinted polymers. The aim of this study is preparation of Thiamethoxam imprinted polymers by different polymerization methods and investigation of their performance. Two methods were used for the preparation of molecular imprinted polymers: Traditionally method (imprinting by bulk polymerization) and newly improved method (imprinting by resin swelling). Because traditional method was troublesome, time consuming and using toxic monomers, molecularly imprinting by the newly method was suggested. In bulk polymerization, molecularly imprinted polymers that can bind TMX was acquired using Thiamethoxam (TMX) template molecule, methacrylic acid (MAA) monomer and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) cross-linker. The mol ratio of template:monomer:crosslinker was used as 1:4:20. In newly improved imprinting method, molecularly imprinted polymers was prepared by simply inserting the resin (styrene-divinylbenzene polymer) into the solution of template molecule (TMX) in a suitable porogen (Acetonitrile) that swells the resin. The extraction of Thiamethoxam from imprinted polymers that prepared with two different methods was performed by soxhlet extraction with methanol. Rebinding performance of Thiamethoxam was investigated by batch-rebinding and column-rebinding methods. Related all results was obtained by using UV-VIS Spectrophotometer. In this thesis, Thiamethoxam imprinted polymer which prepared for the first time was examined as solid phase extraction (SPE) packaging material for separation and pre-concentration purposes. An optimization of conditioning, loading and elution stages for Thiamethoxam separation from SPE column was performed. The eluents were analysed by UV-VIS Spectrophotometer and the recovery values were calculated.
