Abstract (EN)

ABRASIVE WEAR BEHAVIOUR OF 8620 CEMENTATION STEELS WITH DIFFERENT HEAT TREATMENTS (M. Sc. Thesis) Mehmet TABUR GAZİ UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY September 2003 ABSTRACT 8620 cementation steels used widely in gear production have been selected as specimens in this study. These specimens which have been prepared using different heat treatment procedures, have different surface hardness values and different cementation depths. On these specimens with different cementation depths and surface hardness values, wear tests using pin - on disk abrasive wear test device has been carried out. Abrasive wear behaviors of these 8620 cementation steels prepared using different heat treatment procedures has been studied testing under different loads and different wear paths. During these tests, aluminum oxide and silicon carbide grain abrasive wear papers have been used. Test results have shown that the specimens with higher surface hardness values also have high wear resistance. Also, it has been experimentally shown that the hardness of the abrasive material considerably affects the wear resistance.
