Influence of different warm-up protocol on isokinetic knee strength, fatigue, bilateral and ipsilateral torque ratios

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of different warm-up types on isokinetic knee strength, fatigue, bilateral and ipsilateral torque ratios. In this direction, 8 healthy sedentary male participants (age: 22.25±1.49 years; height: 181±0.06 cm; body weight: 73.50±7.62) who do not sports were included in the study. The acute effect was determined in this study. The study was carried out on 5 different days with 48 hours rest between days. Control application, dynamic, ballistic, PNF and static warm-up protocols were performed in a randomized manner and then isokinetic force measurements were carried out. Isokinetic strength measurements were carried out with the Cybex isokinetic test device (Humac Norm Testing and Rehabilitation System, CSMI, USA) at Gaziantep University Faculty of Sport Sciences Performance Measurement Laboratory. Following the warm-up protocols, 15 repetitions at an angular speed of 300o/s-1 were performed on the isokinetic test device for warm-up, and isokinetic strength measurements were performed with 15 repetitions at 3 different angular speeds (240o/s-1,180o/s-1,60o/s-1). The Repeated Measures One Way Anova test was used to evaluate the effects of warm-up protocols on isokinetic knee strength, fatigue, bilateral and ipsilateral torque ratios at different angular velocities. LSD Post-Hoc test was used to analyze the differences between the warm-up protocols. As a result of the analysis, significant difference was not found between the warm-up protocols in the ipsilateral ratios in the dominant and non-dominant knee (p>0.05). Significant difference was found between the warm-up protocols at an angular velocity of 60o/s-1 in the extensor muscles at bilateral rates (p<0.05). There was no significant difference between the warm-up protocols in the extensor muscles in the peak torque values (p>0.05). In the flexor muscles, a significant difference was found between the warm-up protocols at an angular speed of 60o/s-1 in the dominant knee (p<0.05). In the fatigue index values, a significant difference was found between the warm-up protocols at an angular speed of 60o/s-1 in the extensor muscles in the dominant and non-dominant knee (p<0.05). In the flexor muscles, there was no significant difference between the warm-up protocols for fatigue index (p>0.05). Significant difference was found between the warm-up protocols in the average power in the dominant knee extensor 60o/s-1 angular velocity (p<0.05). There was no significant difference between the warm-up protocols in the average power in the non-dominant extensor and dominant and non-dominant flexor muscles (p>0.05). In summary, it could be concluded that the dynamic, ballistic, PNF and static warm-up types may effective on knee isokinetic strength, bilateral ratios, fatigue index and average power values in angular velocity 60o/s-1.
