The effect of perceived coaches behaviors in the determination of different sport branches on organizational commitment of athletes

Developing positive attitudes both for themselves and their teams is very important in achieving the organizational commitment and expectations of the team. Because the commitment of the athletes to their teams can also be said to have an effect on their success. Therefore, in this study, it is aimed to determine the effect of the behaviors and competencies of the coaches in different sports branches on the teams of the athletes. The demographic characteristics of the participants such as age, gender, educational level and coach gender were taken into consideration in the study. For this purpose, the study was carried out with cross-sectional approach and relational survey model which is one of the general survey models. This study was carried out with 500 participants between 12-29 years of age, 212 women and 288 men licensed in different branches of Bolu Youth Sports Provincial Directorate of 2018-2019. Perceptive Trainer Attitude and Behavior Scale developed by Üzüm et al. (2018) and Elite Athletic Organizational Commitment Scale developed by the same researcher in 2010 were used for data collection. The collected data were processed into SPSS 24.0 program and necessary analyzes were performed. Since the distribution of the data was not normal, Mann Whitney-U was used to compare the two groups. Kruskal-Wallis analysis was used to compare more than two groups. Sperman-Rho Correlation was used to reveal the relationship between athletes' attitude and behavior scores and organizational commitment scores. As a result of the data analysis, it was determined that the gender of the athletes did not differ significantly between the groups on the attitudes and behaviors of the coaches. When the level of significance between the groups in terms of the educational status of the athletes was examined, it was found that there was a significant difference in favor of the athletes whose education level was university. As the training level of athletes increases, it can be said that the characteristics of the coaches may be different as the perception of the environment will change. In the sub-dimension of alienation, it was determined that as the age of the athletes decreased, a significant difference occurred. When the related literature is examined, it can be stated that alienation can be seen less in younger individuals when the age level increases, considering that individuals can reach different opportunities more. When the relationship between amateur athletes' sport durations and sub-dimensions of organizational commitment was examined, it was observed that there was no significant difference between the groups. When the attitudes and behaviors sub-dimensions of the trainees were compared with the organizational commitment sub-dimensions, it was observed that there were low level positive relationships. It can be stated that the positive effect of the behaviors of the trainers on the athletes' commintment to their teams.
