ABSTRACT MSc THESIS THE EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT STOCKING DENSITY ON THE GROWTH PERFORMANCE OF SEA BASS FINGERLINGS (Dicentrarchus labrax, L.) O?UZ TAŞBOZAN DEPARTMENT OF FISHERIES INSTITUTE OF NATURAL AND APPLIED SCIENCES UNIVERSITY OF ÇUKUROVA Supervisor : Asst. Prof. Nazmi TEKELÎOGLU Year: 1999, Pages: 27 Jury : Asst. Prof. Nazmi TEKELİOGLU : Assoc. Prof. Metin KUMLU : Asst. Prof. Mahmut Ali GÖKÇE In this study, growth performance of sea bass {Dicentrarchus labrax) fingerlings (9,87±0,36 cm mean length and 9,34±0,83 g mean weight) in different stocking densities was investigated. The fish were stocked in 1 m3 fiberglass tanks at densities of 50 fish/m3 (1st group), 75 fish/m3 (2nd group) and 100 fish/m3 (3rd group) in two replicates. The fish grew to a mean length of 14,99+0,20 cm 1st group, 14,84±0,14 cm 2nd group and 14,82±0,19 cm 3rd group at the end of 88 days of culture (P>0,05). The mean weigths of the 1st, 2nd and 3ri groups were 34,33±1,61 g, 33,43±0,78 g, 32,84±1,36 g respectively (P>0,05). The daily weight gains were 0,285 g in the 1st group, 0,275 g in the 2nd group and 0,268 g in the 3 group. The feed conversion rates ranged between 1,84 and 1,85 in all the groups. The best survival rate was found to be between 99 and 100%. Specific growth rates were determined as 1,495 for the 1st group, 1,465 for the 2nd group and 1,445 for the 3rd group. Keywords: Stocking density, sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax), fingerling. n
