The determination of agronomical and quality traits of different sweet corn cultivars (Zea mays saccharata sturt.) in Manisa ecological conditions

This research was carried out to determine the agricultural and quality characteristics of 11 sweet corn varrieties (Sentinel, Vega, Macaron, Caramelo, Maysu, Fragman, Baha, Sherbet, Mirza, Sf-2169, Sf-2070) in the ecological conditions of Alaşehir district of Manisa province, and to determine the most suitable sweet corn varieties that can be grown by examining their yield traits. The research was carried out in randomized block design with three replications. According to results obtained from the resarch; we found that the values fallow a squence; plant height 136.93- 235.25 cm, number of leaf 8.26-13.40, plant ear number 1.00-1.54, ear length 17.50- 23.35 cm, ear diameter 53.26-67.63 mm, row mumber at ear 14.33-16.77, Kernel number at row 28.53-44.15, total number of kernel 408.95-721.20, thousand grain weight175.16-425.88 g, ear weight with husk 126.73-384.77 g, ear weight without husk 93.00-338.52 g, fresh Kernel weight 44.56-265.27 g , total soluble solids content 11.50-23.75%. The highest ear with glume yield was obtained from '' Sherbet'' variety with 2367.85 kg/da. Keywords:( sweet corn, variety, yield, ear, quality)
