The effects of collogen type i to type iii froms prosthetic materials. An experimental study.

Incisional hernias are one of the most important issues of the laparomies and forming one of the major complications after abdominal operations. Reported incidence change between 2-11 %. The only treatment option of incisional hernieas is surgery and repairment either primarily or with a prostehetic matterial is the treatment modality. At that point ,the Answer of question ? which mesh to use?? ia ? the mesh that has the least recurrence rate?. Because of that the ratio betwen collogen type I and collegen type III becomes important. If the ratio decreases recurrence rate increases. In this study, the ratio of collogen type I to Type III than forms against the mostly used prosthetic materials (prolene, mersilene, parietex and e TPFE ) is searched experimentally.In this study, 5 grups are formed prolene, mersilene, pariettex, e PTFE and control group- and rats are used in each group. In each group incisional hernia is formed after midline incision and peritpn is closed with on absorbale suture primarily. After that four different kind of meshes are placed in to the rettrorektal space and fixed with a nonabsorbable suture. Rectus süperficial fascia and skin are closed with nonabsorbable sutture. In the conttrol group, repairment is done primarily. 30 days later meshes are found through the incisionsthat were done previously. Scar tissues above and near by meshes and olso in the conttrol group are taken and in these tissue samples the ratio of type I/III is evaluated histochemically.As a conclusion, the ratio of colloge type I/III isthe highest in the prolene group. After that mersilene and parietex group have higher ratio than e PTFE and control group. Significant difference is found between all groups. In each group, the ratios of type I/III inthe tissue above and near by the meshes are found tthe same.Key Words: Meshes, İncisional hernia, Collagen
